Mountain Float-Chiang Mai

By on February 25, 2020

Following our comprehensive itinerary Thailand tour starting in Bangkok, On our third day, we flew to Chiang Mai, the Northern part of Thailand. Our aim here is to enjoy the best of Chiang Mai from start to finish. This is the much-needed vacation we’ve been waiting for, no urgent concerns, no rushing obligations, just a well-deserved time leaving work and other worries behind but I don’t think one week vacation here in Thailand is the right amount of time, this is just a short time and plenty of travel sites transferring from location to another, not enough time to explore the whole of Thailand. I know for sure, sooner I keep coming back for more.

Day 1- Journey into the heart of Chiang Mai

Aerial View of Chiang Mai, Thailand from airplane window.

Departed on-time, we arrived in Chiang Mai early morning, not very far from the airport, we went straight for breakfast at Thai restaurant that serves the most popular Thai breakfast generally at reasonable prices, we really don’t want to miss this, it’s the start of the day. We ordered the most delicious and popular breakfast dishes. We had Thai congee, steamed siomai (pork dumplings, fried tofu, and other varieties were a bit less spicy. Our breakfast was so good, it gives ample energy to tour for the day.

After our breakfast, we went to relax in the spa for a duration of 120 mins massage, the AYURVEDIC & Wellness a health land massage, it is the most popular stress relief spa here in Chiang Mai.

What a Wow thing! Not only the soothing treatment, just after the massage, I immediately achieved the best feeling of well-being.

It’s about lunchtime when we finished our spa and another 30 minutes drive to reach Huen Muan Jai, a Northern Food Restaurant, one of the best places to eat and it is the most famous Thai select cuisine awarded by Ministry of Commerce in Thailand. As always, Thai food plays a central role renowned for its quality and diversity. This is really a traveler-oriented restaurant, food served was good, I was impressed with the taste and presentation techniques and enjoyed the succulent taste, it’s a bit expensive but worth trying sharing a selection of Northern dishes if you are heading to Chiang Mai, try this restaurant. More on that, a bit later.

After our healthy breakfast, a spa treatment and sumptuous lunch, I now have a better memory and energy level to cope with different activities throughout the day. It seems my energy is now best designed for long tour. I’m now ready to climb the mountains of Hill tribes. Here we go!

This is the best plan for an adventurous visitor like me to venture into the Karen territory, any visitor can seek out an inner territory of the Nomads.

From my journey to the North, it is worthwhile meeting the hill tribes. People here were very friendly and accommodating. So far, the longest time I have ever personally been on, anyway, I enjoyed every moment of it and I would be benefitted to learn about their cultural heritage.

Baan Tong Luang Eco-Agricultural Village

Continuing along the Northern part around Chiang Mai, the surrounding countryside is dotted with day-trip options in all directions. Climbing the hills en route to the mountains of hill tribes. A hill tribe is a term for all of the various ethnic groups in Thailand. The Heritage site, the home of the hill tribes originating in all various parts of China and Southeast Asia, the ethnic groups settled in Thailand who came from Burma, Laos, and Cambodia. They are often described as the 4th world people, they are simply migrants who continue to migrate moving frequently from one village to another.

Hill tribes sell locally produced products (crafted goods), no inflated costs if you buy directly from them. Support the ethnic group, buy their products!

The traditional mode of ethnic expression, the ethnic groups identified by their colorful traditional costume decorated by silver jewels and embellished by elegant bodices.

Meet the Karen tribe, my favorite of all the ethnic groups living there, Karen group scattered throughout the villages deep in the forest up high the mountains bordering Myanmar.

Legendary ”Giraffe woman” with extremely long necks adorned with gold rings. We usually call it a weird adornment but for them is a beauty treatment, this is to testify the richness of craft tradition and wealth of their own tribe.

Mountain Float Resort Chiang Mai

This is the major highlight of this blog that introduces more of Chiang Mai and suggesting when to go and what not to miss. I’m now sharing every aspect with you, dear readers.

Of greatest interest, the day will not end up here, it’s nearly 4 pm and the sun begins to set while a cool wind blows heading to our floating house.

Our excitement grows into every aspect of whats Chiang Mai is going to offer next. We were all excited to experience on-the-water home accommodation as our new hideaway destination is waiting for us.

After the Heritage site, We directly went to Sri Lanna National Park to catch the speed boat and from here, we were taken to the ”Mountain Float. It took 35 minutes to reach our new destination, The Mountain float or Houseboat, or Floating house, our new on-the-water home. Mountain float resort, a 4-star floating hotel in Chiang Mai.

Mountain Float Resort Chiang Mai

Mountain Float resort taken by flying camera, Drone, I love the results from that drone.

As we approached the floating house, the hotel crew was already waiting at the arrival area, ready to assist us. What a warm welcome!

Mountain Float Resort located in the Mae Taeng area of Chiang Mai. This is a floating house well-suited to families who want to experience a bit of privacy and to enjoy not only the food but also the peacefulness of the picturesque waterscape and watersports. For more dominant features coming up next, scroll down please, this is such a long blog.

The crew immediately offered us healthy snacks and local delicacies for the whole family to enjoy.

We have our own patio dining table just beside our room.

What a beautiful patio with a full lake breeze, it’s a unique geography to connect with nature overlooking across Sri Lanna National Park.

Foods served are the ones I’ve been craving for, How can I resist? A basket of Crispy Fried Chicken on a crepe basket with a side dish of Caesar salad, that’s a good part of my diet.

I have never had a more relaxing vacation just like this before, this is a beautiful spot to fuel the day. Plateful of nutritious food consists of fresh slices of ripe guavas, melon and dragon fruit.

Our assorted snacks for the day; that white jelly on a white plate is Khanom Tako or pudding, a Thai sweet Jelly with coco cream on top. On a native basket is Pork cracklings and the on a big platter is Pad Thai made out of fresh ingredients; rice noodles, shrimps, chicken, tofu and scrambled eggs. What an impressive food scene with light aromatic components.

This is something new to experience for the whole family and it’s ready to serve us.

There’s plenty of privacy, perfectly comfortable and spacious with dramatic waterscape. All houseboats have the buoyancy to make the raft float stably and with 24 hours electricity and water have been filtered through a series of standard equipment.

Each houseboat has an area of approximately 100 square meters divided into 4 large bedrooms with one double and twin beds. Each room has its own clean bathroom and toilet.

From the patio, you’ll feel the mellow atmosphere with a piece of soft music, to while away an hour or two during a pleasant conversation.

Enjoying the luxury lifestyle of a floating house for a few nights but adding considerable charms makes me feel like home. I felt the intimate connection with the serenity of the misty surroundings and nearby mountains.

The dramatic waterscape is truly beautiful that blends with the land and water breeze and that makes this place special.

I’m enjoying being alone even for just a moment, atmosphere around gives me exhilarating sense of peacefulness.

Wooden walkways going to the restaurant. Mountain float is just the right balance fairly offered us modern comfort.

You don’t have to worry about anything, everything is included; the boat trips, water sports, buffet breakfast and dinner and they also served the most nutritious snack.

Mountain Float Restaurant dining area. Our buffet breakfast going on here, somehow, very appealing and well-organized food presentation, it’s a modern twist display.

My morning breakfast

At first, it took a while to get used to a floating home, on our first night, it was uneasy and couldn’t sleep because our new bedroom is entirely different to our usual one. The only problem, the temperature is fine daytime but at sundown, the temperature drops abruptly and you will experience a chilly night till 6 in the morning. Absolutely no buzzing nightlife here but there’s a billiard hall for the boys to play with no time limits.

Mountain Float Restaurant

Dining on separate houseboat with a lounge, it’s lovely and romantic venue, it’s a home away from home.

It offers exceptional fishing, Kayaking speed boating, swimming and other water sports just ready to use.

There’s also a kid’s play platform and jumping stumps for them to enjoy.

There’s also a floating boat lift for speed boats, you can even wander from your houseboat to another houseboats nearby, the floating platform is stable.

Another perspective on this water world, getting closer to nature on a kayak.

The blissful solitude at its most whimsical and surreal.

Visibly stunning sunrise

Wooden walkways with potted plants

My favorite spot to catch up the sunrise, great ambiance, excellent food and a pleasant space to hang out for long conversations.

Thinking of people I care about, the right moment for me to reflect on the things I should be grateful for, a reminder for the many things we have to be thankful for. God is good!

This is really a wonderful place to enjoy the serenity of life and to nourish my soul.

Buddhist Monk collecting alms arrives at Mountain Float Resort early in the morning.

There’s never been a more exciting time than to stay here considering dramatic views and the serenity of the lake.

There’s plenty to enjoy here in Chiang Mai Mountain Float, escape your busy life, pick your travel destination to experience a perfect place to unwind.

To document my experience staying here was such an amazing treat for the whole family, I wished vacation would never end….

Chiang Mai, Thailand, this is the kind of place to fall in love with, I was emotionally sad to leave this place. Definitely, it reminds me of my friends; Dear Pat, Jam and Sorakhom’s family. My special thanks goes to you guys! Words are certainly not enough to express my gratitude to you. Thank you so much Papatsorn! Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality !

The Majestic Wuling Mountain

By on March 22, 2019

Hehuan Wuling is also called ‘’Joy Mountain’’ with 3,416 metres above sea level in Central Taiwan. The peak lies on the borders of Nantou and Hualien. Strategically located within Taroko National Park, this prime winter attraction seems to be accustomed by tourists all over, it offers exceptional views, the unique natural spectacle is extremely impressive.Taiwan, one of the leading tourism destination, it has secured its attractions to fall in love with.

Rounded all the special attractions, of all 25 tourist spots we’ve visited, the snow mountain is my top picks for the best mountain scenery and my personal favorite photo location. The scenic postcard scenery, has inspired many writers and it’s a  photographer’s paradise. As an adventurous traveler, Taiwan makes it one of my favorite places to visit around the world.

Getting through month of December, it was freezing winter when we visited this place, the journey up took over 2 hours drive following the highest pass with narrow and winding routes. It was raining and temperature drops 3°C, the upslope fog and ice crystals falling from above resulting in poor visibility. Winter in the mountains is a better chance to see white snows but it was extremely cold. My 4 layering outfit wasn’t enough to brave the cold.

I’m enjoying the scenery of the highest mountain in Taiwan. Hiking up and down was truly exhausting, my fitness level is good but my strength is nowhere near the strength that i had back in my heyday. Now, I can firmly understand why mountains are calling and I must go and I can feel the urge to come back again soon.

Sneaking trough the mountains, it’s a drive without stopping. Finally, about to reach the highest point of Taiwan, our driver and tourist guide warned us to watch our step as it was slippery ahead hiking trails. We could only spend an hour but before the due time given, we left as early as expected.

Four-color mountains; white, blue, green and yellow.

POSTCARD BEAUTY OF WULING

You can see here all the living proof of Wuling or Joy Mountain. Wuling mountain, one of the famous and well-known highest point in Taiwanese Highway.

Fast moving white puffy clouds commonly seen in the winter.

For those in search of mountain peak spectacle, the landscape beauty is here to inspire you.

This is how the earth was made, it’s beautiful!

Overlooking the enchanting stretch , it’s photography time for the girls…

Hillary on the go, Feeling cold more than the others..

Our Christmas wishes to go to a place where snow falls, it’s on the wish list of many too. White Christmas was granted! A week vacation in Taiwan was a unique experience for the entire family. A family get-together, enjoying together and that keeps me going.

Snow mountain beauty

Distant mountain looks green and yellow.

All popular tourist attractions will certainly grow. Future looks brighter for Taiwan. For those in search of spectacular view of the mountain ranges that offers breathtaking views. Wuling mountain is the place to head for, it’s worth a visit.

Beautiful Sunrise Over the Clouds

By on November 30, 2018

With every sunset, there is also sunrise, top 5 among the world’s most photographed subjects of photography. Up close and personal, I have managed to capture the sunrise over the clouds from an airplane window while heading to Bali, Indonesia. Early morning flight schedule gave me the opportunity to capture the beautiful sunrise. At such a fast rate of speed, so quickly to rush, only just a moment to enjoy the sunrise.

My first experience to capture the early morning light that signals the beginning of the day. Up high looking down from an airplane window, it seems the trees and mountains looks so very small but I’m enjoying the stunning valley floor most splendid when the fog fills the meadows and drapes the surrounding cliffs and sentinel peaks.

The incoming sunrise

Blanket of clouds at sunrise, it’s a worthy wonders of nature.

Bantay Abot Cave

By on August 20, 2018

Ilocos is a home to some of the beautiful attractions, one of the most wonderful attractions I’ve seen is the ”Bantay Abot Cave” It is located along the beautiful shore of a small town of Baloi, Ilocos Norte. From the name itself, ”Bantay” means mountain in Ilocano and ”Abot” means a cave. It’s a mountain with a hole.

Bantay Abot cave is not really an ancient cave, it is a hill that was wrecked by an earthquake in the year 1980, leaving a hole in the middle part, it looks like a Doughnut hole. Behind the hill is a high cliff.  Down there is a sea from a high cliff, you can see the powerful waves breaking down and crashing into rocks. This sea is not suitable for swimming.

Standing up high the cliff to see the stunning view of the whole area. What a stunning scenery! Somewhere up there, the sounds of sea waves can do more wonders, it makes me feel more relaxed, so refreshing to keep me going and washed my blues away. It cures everything.

This is just a proof that beauty can also be found in ruins, Natural forces have sloped this, it looks like cracks on earth.

The Sinking Bell Tower of Laoag

By on August 19, 2018

Ilocos is a home of historical and architectural features. The Sinking Bell Tower of Laoag is a century old 45-meter tall bell tower built by the Augustinian Friars in 1612. The construction is a typical earthquake baroque. Built by old brick and stone-faced with lime stucco plaster, the tower rises in 4 tiers. The base with its massive rounder corners supports the graduated upper tiers noted for its graceful curved buttresses and corner treatments giving its early baroque appearance. The tower is crowned by a double dome topped with a cross and housed 6 bells of different sizes. Way up thru a vaulted tunnel leading to a winding wooden stairway. The high pitch ringing sound of the third tier can be heard in a neighboring town, it’s a joyful noise of adoration and to call attention to those unable to hear mass.

Because of its great weight, over the years, the soil greatly weakened losing structural support causing the bell tower to sunk a rate of an inch a year, that’s why it is called the ”Sinking Bell Tower” According to history when a person on horseback once could enter the vaulted entrance without stooping. Now, a person of ordinary height has to stoop to enter thru the door.

Kapurpurawan Rock Formation (Burgos Ilocos Norte)

By on July 18, 2018

Out of the 25 tourist attractions I’ve seen during my tour to Ilocos, the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation in Burgos is a sight to behold. Particularly renowned for its unique formation of rocks that looks like a reminder of prehistoric past. It is extremely a rugged white mountain of rocks rise above highlands. The irregular and cone-shaped high rocks of every form takes a hundred of years to form, it’s usually formed by products of erosion of pre-existing rocks.

Because of the rugged terrain, I’m not so sure if I can tolerate the heat and not really sure if I’m fit enough for a 2-hour uphill and downhill trek, it was extremely hot but windy out there so I rented a horse to take me around following the steep trail and surely, it’s the kind of horse that can manage rocky terrain. Anyway, the cost of the horse is not that expensive at all, it’s only 100 per person with a guide around.

This trail will lead you all the way down to the rock formation site. Down there is a  sloping pasture, you can see the presence of cattle, sheep and goats around. it’s a grazing land.

I’m not an experienced rider but I can lead a horse.

One of the most dramatic rock formation.

Photo shows different sedimentary rock formations as simply formed in different ways.

A unique beauty in the wilderness

A splendid steep rock formation, magnificent scenery.

Closing up the edge of the cliff and the high mountains, it was spectacular! Kapurpurawan Rock Formation in Burgos, a unique landscape I’ll never forget…

Dahlia Hybrids

By on February 22, 2018

Following our family vacation previously, I had focused my attention on all exciting enhancements during that time and much more to something which is more relaxing and pleasing to the eye. Our itinerary doesn’t only just cover delicious foods and luxury comfort, it also includes must- sees garden flowers too.

Eagerly to show what I’ve acquired in the course of my Baguio tour, the splash of flowers and attractive features, this is something that gives identity to a certain place,’’Botanical garden of Baguio’’ the field of blooming flowers and an outstanding park for the dahlias. The best series of dahlias can be seen around minus the fragrance as a notable exception, you can also see here all the growing species in a cooler environment and my free time to appreciate is limitless.

The scene satisfies my cravings to photograph everything. One of the great things that I love is photography no matter if it’s indoor or outdoor location is considerably an overwhelming hobby. It took an hour to finished,  shows my expression of love for the flowers and it leaves unforgettable memories to remember.

Pleasingly beautiful to the point of my interest, my top choices  are the dahlia flowers. I’ve completed all the varieties from single to the large ones. If you like beautiful flowers, you’ll surely love these dahlias!

Types of Dahlias

Dahlia flower- are sun lovers and  tender perennials forming tuberous roots. They are fast growing plant that comes in every color carried on long stems above erect plants and classified by both size and type from the big-sized dinner-plate varieties down to the midget pompoms. Wild species were the first introduced in the British Isles.  Dahlias are very useful in flower arrangement and garden decoration, they are graceful landscape plants and good for borders and mass planting.

Single-flowered dahlia – Single blooms, having one row of smooth ray florets surrounding a central disk.

Peony-flowered dahlia- having two to three rows of broad and usually flat petals           surrounding a central disk.

Decorative dinner plate dahlia – A huge plate-sized blooms.

Informal decorative dahlia

Formal decorative dahlia – The double flowers have broad petals which are normally flat and sometimes slightly twisted and bluntly pointed or rounded at the tips. This class covers a wide range similar to pompom and cactus.

Twisted dahlia – Florets are twisted and curved.

Collarette dahlia – Brightly colored flowers with one or more rings of flat ray florets, the ring collar of smaller florets about half of the ray florets.

Bi-colored dahlia

Double show and Fancy dahlia – Fully double and almost globular in shape. The central florets slightly smaller than the outer florets. The show types are self-colored while the fancy types are bi-colored and variegated. One of the oldest classes.

Cactus dahlia

Cactus dahlia – are very popular for flower arrangement,  show no disk and fully double flowers have a straight or in curving petals that tends to be narrow and pointed star-like appearance.

Waterlily dahlia

Orchid-flowered dahlia

Note: (Not available at the moment, to be added soon. Pompom dahlia, Orchid dahlia, Anemone-flowered dahlia, Star-flowered dahlia, Miscellaneous…)

The botanical garden has an area specifically designed for dahlias only. In the Philippines, you can find the best hybrid varieties in Baguio and Tagaytay, the two largest flower producers in the country. Most dahlias we grow today are the product of botanist and gardener’s breeding effort.
